Caridon Property Group is a leading social housing provider in the UK, having housed more than 10,000 people. In 2019, the company was proud to sponsor The Big Issue, an organisation whose values align closely with those of Caridon Property Group, a company that was created with the mission of helping vulnerable people to get back on their feet by helping them to find housing.
The Big Issue’s corporate subscription initiative was launched to support its mission of dismantling poverty by presenting employability and training programmes for marginalised and vulnerable groups, including Big Issue vendors. Through programmes like its sheltered employment initiative, the Big Issue hopes to help participants build their skills, knowledge and confidence, empowering them to move on to mainstream employment and lead more stable lives.
The aim of The Big Issue is to provide homeless people and those at risk of homelessness with opportunities to earn a legitimate wage, helping them to reintegrate into society. The Big Issue is focussed on the bigger picture of homelessness, which is why Caridon Property Group found it such an importance cause to support.
About Caridon Property Group
Founded in 2009 by Mario Carrozzo, who continues to serve as CEO today, Caridon Property Group was initially launched as a family-run business with the vision of creating value in the UK property sector while making a difference in social housing and development, providing bespoke, modern and affordable accommodation to help ease the housing crisis. Over the years the business has grown considerably, employing circa 95 people today and maturing to become an extremely successful, award-winning business serving both the social and private sectors.
Christopher Membu was a portfolio manager for Caridon Property Group. He helped families in need, supporting them as part of his role managing temporary accommodations provided to councils. This was a cause near to Mr Membu’s heart, having found himself homeless aged just 17 years old. After a very difficult period in his life and with the help of several charities, Christopher Membu was able to get back on his feet. He has since worked in several roles linked to politics, government and housing needs, and through his work with Caridon Property Group he made a real difference in social housing.
Many of Caridon Property Group’s properties are intended to serve as stepping stones, providing a temporary housing solution for those forced to move out of shared accommodation and helping them to avoid homelessness. A Caridon Property Group representative said that the company looked forward to collaborating further with The Big Issues in terms of finding ways to tackle the housing crisis.
