COVID-19 has thrown many plans out the window for some people. It is more important than ever that you manage to keep yourself on track and that includes buying your home. Here are some of the things you need to think about if you still want to buy your first property at this time.

Do as Much as You Can Virtually

Many estate agents are putting precautions in place to help property viewers see what is out there without visiting. Before the pandemic, many high-end estate agents were making short videos that allowed you to look around the home before going to view it. However, now many more estate agents have also adopted this practice, in case people are not able to visit for in-person viewings.

There are also virtual viewings taking place through applications like Zoom. People are able to spend their time looking at the property in detail, directing their estate agent round it as they please. This can be useful as the estate agent may be able to provide information about the size of rooms, and other details that need to be known.

If you do have to visit a property in person, make sure that you are obeying all government guidelines to a tee. By being calm and sensible about the whole endeavour, you will find it to be a much more pleasant experience.

Be Prepared to Juggle Moving

Once you have a property secured, you may find the moving process more drawn out than any others you may have faced. Depending on your job situation, you might be furloughed and you will not have to arrange some time off to arrange the move as you otherwise would.

One thing you may want to try is moving your belongings bit by bit. You may not be able to secure a full moving van or some other item that would make the process that bit simpler. As a result, you may be doing much of the task yourself. By having an additional location like a unit at Safestore where you can move things into, you may be able to store some non-essential belongings while you focus on getting the more important things where they need to go.

Be Patient

Buying a house in the future may seem like a lightning-quick process, especially if you are doing it in a busy city. However, you may feel like it is a very drawn-out process just now. The housing market is slowed and it may take a while to get a response from certain parties involved in the sale.

No matter what, you need to be patient and potentially persistent. If you have found your dream home and it is still available on the market, you need to make sure that you are doing everything in your power to close that sale. Make sure your solicitor knows that you want to move forward, be in regular contact with the sellers and the estate agent, and just focus on getting you the home you want.

If you are trying to buy your first home during the pandemic, it can sometimes seem like a bit of a disheartening experience. However, there is no reason why you cannot get this done. Take the time to work out what you as a first-time buyer need to do, and chase the property that you have saved so hard for. Before you know it, the keys could be in your hand, and you could be preparing to spend your first night in your very first owned home.
