Revolut EURR Euro Stablecoin Targets Three Countries in MiCA-Compliant Launch

Revolut‘s Revolut EURR euro stablecoin is set to launch in Denmark, Poland, and Portugal, marking the UK-based fintech’s first move into euro-pegged digital assets and the opening phase of a broader European rollout. Which leaves an obvious question: can a non-USD stablecoin from a mainstream retail platform shift user habits in a market still dominated by dollar-backed tokens?

What EURR Is and How It Will Work

The token, pegged to the euro, will sit inside Revolut’s existing retail app and is designed so users can move between euros and crypto without friction. It will be supported across multiple blockchains and crypto wallets. According to Revolut’s own blog, EURR is launching on Ethereum as part of this phased rollout, with further blockchain support to follow. Revolut has also said it plans to offer stablecoins pegged to other fiat currencies beyond the euro, though it has not specified which ones or when.

The infrastructure behind EURR comes from a subsidiary of Bridge, the stablecoin infrastructure firm that was acquired by Stripe. That subsidiary, Bridge Building S.A., is Luxembourg-based and is authorised by the CSSF (Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier) as both a crypto-asset service provider and an electronic money institution. According to Eco’s MiCA-compliant stablecoins list, Bridge Building S.A. filed its MiCA notification with ESMA on 23 July 2026. That regulatory groundwork matters: Revolut has stated that EURR is fully compliant with the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, and the Luxembourg authorisation is the mechanism that makes that claim concrete.

The Revolut EURR Euro Stablecoin Enters a Small but Growing Market

Dollar-backed stablecoins still dominate by a wide margin, but the non-USD segment is moving. A report by Visa and Dune put the non-USD stablecoin market at $1.1 billion in February, a figure that represents a tripling in just over three years. That growth rate is worth holding alongside the still-modest absolute size.

The composition of those holdings is arguably more telling than the headline number. Roughly half of non-USD stablecoins were held in institutional and individual wallets, while about a quarter were held on centralised exchanges. That split suggests these tokens are being actively used rather than simply parked as savings or yield vehicles, which is precisely the behaviour a retail payments app like Revolut is designed to encourage.

Within that broader category, Circle’s EURC has been the dominant euro-pegged token, accounting for over 90% of non-USD transfer volume. EURC recently topped €400 million in circulation. Revolut’s entry into this space does not displace that dynamic overnight, but it adds a distribution channel with very different reach: a consumer app rather than a crypto-native product.

Why Euro Stablecoins Have a Structural Argument

The demand case for euro-pegged stablecoins rests on a few overlapping factors. The euro is used across more than 20 countries, and persistent inefficiencies in cross-border payments within that zone have been a long-running frustration for both businesses and policymakers. A euro stablecoin that settles quickly and cheaply has an obvious pitch.

Then there is the digital euro. The EU’s central bank digital currency (CBDC) project has been in development for years without a clear launch date, caught up in legal, technical, and political complexity. A euro-backed stablecoin, available now and MiCA-compliant, positions itself as the practical alternative while the official version remains a work in progress. At a moment when payments sovereignty has become a political priority for EU leaders, that framing has real resonance.

MiCA itself cuts both ways. The regulation has been welcomed as a clear framework for stablecoin issuers, but its compliance deadline has also pushed a number of digital assets firms out of the European market. Revolut’s decision to build EURR on a MiCA-compliant infrastructure from the outset, through Bridge Building S.A.’s Luxembourg authorisation, is a direct response to that dynamic: the regulatory barrier becomes a moat if you are already on the right side of it.

Revolut’s broader expansion plans for EURR (covering additional European markets and eventually additional currency pegs) will be the real test of whether a mainstream fintech can do what crypto-native issuers have not: bring non-USD stablecoins to a genuinely mass-market audience. The three-country launch gives the firm a live product to learn from before it scales.
